Prep Baseball: BOLD’s Sandgren named Class A’s ’14 Player of Year

BOLD senior Logan Sandgren has been named the Minnesota Class A Player of the Year.

Sandgren received the award at a Minnesota All-Star Series banquet on Thursday.

Sandgren, the Warriors’ ace the last two seasons, helped lead the team to the Class A state championship in 2013 and to a fourth-place finish in this spring’s state tournament.

Sandgren was 10-0 with two saves this season. He posted a 0.57 earned-run average — allowing just five earned runs in 61.2 innings — and he struck out 110 while issuing just 17 walks.

In the last two seasons, Sandgren also has throw three no-hitters and one perfect game.

At the plate this year, Sandgren hit .312 with two home runs and 24 runs batted in.

Sandgren earned the West Central South Conference MVP award. He will play at St. Cloud Technical College next season.

Joining Sandgren were Toby Hanson, of Delano, the Class AA POY and Moundsview’s Sam Hentges, the Class AAA POY.
