Girls Basketball: ACGC drills Sauk Centre in WC showdown

SAUK CENTRE -- Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City won its 12th straight game Thursday after Lauren Kinzler drained six 3-pointers to help the Falcons beat No. 2 Sauk Centre 45-29 in the West Central Interconference championship.

"We just played terrific man-to-man defense," said ACGC coach Terry Karlsgodt. "And we rebounded very well on the offensive end. I think we were definitely considered the underdog in this game so it was a big win for us. "

Kinzler was 6-for-7 on three-pointers en route to netting a game-high 22 points for ACGC, which led 28-12 at halftime. Kinzler made four treys in the first 18 minutes of play.

"They took it to us in the first half," said Sauk Centre coach Scott Bergman, whose squad was the top-ranked team in Class AA before falling to New London-Spicer on Tuesday. "They really played great defense. They are definitely an impressive team and are on a roll."

No other player scored in double figures for ACGC as Angela Blackwell and Chastity Pautzke both scored seven points. Miranda Hopp was held to six points under her season average, but she grabbed nine rebounds to help the Falcons own a 24-18 advantage on the boards and pocketed four steals.

Kali Peschel had 14 points for Sauk Centre, which made nine field goals and five free throws in losing its second straight after opening the season winning 23 in a row.
