WILLMAR — After being held scoreless for three innings, Willmar struck for nine runs in over the last three frames to topple Madison 9-2 Tuesday at Swansson Field.

Madison took a quick 1-0 lead when Connor Oie’s groundout knocked in Austin Domeier in the first inning. Domeier limited Willmar to two hits — singles from Noah Vreeman and Sam Vreeman — over the first three innings, but the home team took advantage of three walks and singles from Dalton Rambow and Tyler Johnson in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.

Willmar then scored four times in the fifth and produced three more runs in the sixth. Willmar batted nine in the fifth and got two more hits from Johnson and Rambow.

Matt Flaig got the start and responded by throwing a complete game for Willmar. Flaig gave up five hits and just one earned run while striking out three to shake off issuing four walks.

Backing the victory was Rambow’s 3-for-4 performance at the plate that resulted in two RBI. Johnson finished with two hits, while Noah Vreeman stole three bases after drawing two walks and picking up a single.

Willmar plays at Montevideo on Thursday before hosting a tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
