VFW baseball: Willmar clubs Montevideo

MONTEVIDEO — A nine at bat fifth inning produced five runs and a comfortable 8-0 lead for Willmar as Post 1639 tumbled Montevideo 11-1 Thursday.

Willmar scored in every inning but the first and had six players pile up eight hits to back a solid performance on the mound starter Tyler Johnson and two relievers. Johnson struck out four and didn’t give up a hit in four innings to pick up the win.

Johnson also singled twice and drove in two runs at the plate, as did Garrit Kooistra. Leadoff hitter Brayden Sunder singled, drew two walks and scored twice, while Dalton Rambow and Austin Boller also scored twice for Willmar.

Weather permitting, Willmar hosts a two-day tournament starting Saturday.
