Legion Baseball: Willmar overwhelms Kerkhoven

WILLMAR — Adam Nibaur struck out 11 and surrendered only four hits and leadoff batter Tyler Stegeman singled three times to score twice as Willmar overwhelmed Kerkhoven 8-1 Wednesday.

Willmar scored single runs in each of the first four innings before scoring twice in both the fifth and sixth. Tony McCleary capped the scoring with a two-run single in the sixth.

Nibaur issued just one walk while scattering four singles in a complete-game win. The right-hander struck out the side in the third and seventh.

McCleary finished with two hits and Josh Tinklenberg supplied Post 169 with an RBI single in the third. Willmar collected only six hits, but Kerkhoven made five errors, leading to four unearned runs.

Kerkhoven got its lone run in the sixth when Fred Mansfield reached on a dropped third strike, moved to third on Rylan Hatlestad’s single and scored on a wild pitch.

Willmar hosts Eden Valley-Watkins and Kerkhoven is at Tri-Town today.
