VFW baseball: Willmar pounds Benson

WILLMAR — The first six Willmar batters drew a walk in the first inning and shorty later in the inning Noah Streed, Sam Vreeman and Tyler Johnson singled to cap an eight-run frame as Willmar upended Benson 14-4 in six innings Tuesday at Swansson Field.

Three scoreless innings followed the early explosion and a pair of three-run frames ended the game early. Willmar collected 10 hits with Johnson, also the winning pitcher, pacing the attack with a 3-for-4 performance. Trae Murphy added two singles to drive in two runs and score twice.

Vreeman, Johnson and Streed also knocked in two runs each, while Noah Vreeman stole four bases.

Johnson struck out eight and surrendered three hits, three walks and two earned runs in a complete-game performance.
