VFW baseball: Willmar scrubs Paynesville 8-3

WILLMAR — Trae Murphy belted a three-run homer and knocked in another run on a groundout, and teammate Noah Streed drove in four more runs to help Willmar beat Paynesville 8-3 Friday.

Murphy’s blast broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning and after Paynesville cut Willmar’s lead to 4-2 in the fourth, Post 1639 tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth when Streed doubled in Collin Christianson and Preston DeCathelineau, who both singled.

Grant Bangen threw all seven innings for Willmar, striking out nine while scattering eight hits and two walks.

Another two-run double from Streed in the sixth capped the scoring.
