Prep Volleyball: BOLD's season ended by Marshall in sweep

MARSHALL -- For the 10th year in a row, the Marshall Tigers have advanced to the state volleyball tournament, this time after sweeping BOLD 25-15, 25-17, 25-13 in the Section 3AA championship Saturday night at Southwest Minnesota State University.

Kenzie Beekman had nine kills and Morgan McKittrick eight to lead the Tigers, who pounced on nearly every attack and serve the Warriors could throw at them.

"They played unbelievable defense," said BOLD coach Paula Dunn. "They were all over the court and dug up everything."

Marshall is the defending Class AA champion and played like it on Saturday.

"They were definitely the more confident of the two teams," Dunn remarked. "We had some bright moments and had a lead in Game 2, but we couldn't keep our composure long enough to keep them from making runs."

Marshall's defensive pressure was evidenced by the Warriors finish with no ace serves and only 22 kills. Nikki Neisen led BOLD with eight kills in 27 attacks. Tyann Caspers finished with five kills, Brittany Nissen four, Molly Herdina three and Brenna Holwerda two. Alex Ebnet led with nine digs and Holwerda had eight.

BOLD finished with a 23-6 record, its best finish since 2002 when the Warriors were 24-6.
