CLC boys soccer race gets even hotter as Cards, Sartell play to 3-3 tie

SARTELL -- The Willmar boys soccer team tied with Sartell 3-3 on Thursday, throwing the Central Lakes Conference race into a dead heat the final two weeks of the regular season.

Willmar's Tim Rogers scored with less than five minutes to play to help keep the Cardinals and Sartell tied for first at 10 in the CLC's point system.

Willmar trailed by a goal at the half, but Juan Gomez scored goals in the 56th minute and in the 63rd minute on assists from Handerson Tevelan and Rogers.

Rogers scored the game-tying goal on an assist from Cesar Jimenez in the 75th minute.

The Cardinals played without starting goalie Joaquin Espinoza who was out after suffering an injury in a win over Alexandria earlier this week. Junior Becerra took his place and made 7 saves.
