Girls Hockey: HF/Waconia edges Stars in overtime

WILLMAR -- The River Lakes girls hockey team missed a penalty shot late in the third period, then saw Holy Family Catholic/Waconia take advantage of the break just 22 seconds into overtime to down the Stars 4-3 on Tuesday.

The Stars (7-5-1) play Brookings, S.D. (8-2) at 2 p.m. today in the Willmar Bus Holiday Cardinal Classic third-place game at the Civic Center.

Willmar, a 4-1 winner over Brookings, plays HLC/W at 4 p.m. today.

With the game tied 3-3, River Lakes was awarded the third-period penalty shot after HFC/W's Kelsey Burmeister covered the puck in the Wildfire crease.

But Wildfire goalie Lexi Hartman deflected the shot by River Lakes' forward Rachael Prozinski to help force overtime.

HFC/W's Abby Hanscom scored the game-winner, her second goal of the game, 22 seconds into OT.

Prozinski had a goal and an assist, and Erin Porwoll and Shelby Teal scored the Stars' other goals.

Goalie Dominique Jungels made 33 saves.
