WILLMAR -- Alexandria outshot the Willmar Cardinals 38 to 25 and scored a goal in each period to beat their Central Lakes rival 3-0 on Thursday.

The visitors dominated the first period pouring 14 shots on goalie Baylie Young in the first game of the girl/boy varsity doubleheader.

She stopped them all, except when Britni DelCastillo got off a shot from in tight after a wrap-around and crisp feed by Shelby Iverson, who had the first assist on all three goals.

Illies had the second assist on the first period goal and then scored shorthanded in the second frame and an insurance goal at 10:23 of the third.

The Alex first line did all the damage and a good defense did the rest.

"We started slow but improved the second and third periods," said Jason Mayer.

After being outshot 14-5 in the first period, shot were near even the last two stanzas.

Willmar will host Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek at 7 p.m. today.
