Boys Hockey: Willmar's rally falls short in overtime

WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals couldn't get a break and fell in overtime 2-1 in CLC boys hockey on Tuesday at the Cardinal Arena.

Isaiah Merteschippers swatted a rolling puck past Willmar netminder Derek Baker for the game-ending goal 2:39 into the extra period.

Sartell led 1-0 after two periods when Tyler Minkel batted a puck out of the air into the Willmar goal.

"They lot a couple of lucky bounces and we didn't," said Willmar head coach Dan Tollefson. "We hit two pipes in overtime."

Hunter Schneider's team leading 14 goal just 13 ticks into the third frame knotted the score 1-1.

Sartell had a narrow advantage in shots, 25-22.
