Prep Softball: KMS pounds Benson/Hancock 23-1

Tribune Staff Reports

BENSON -- KMS started strong, ended strong, and also wasn't too bad in the middle.

The Fighting Saints scored eight runs in the first inning and capped the game with an 11-run fifth to down Benson/Hancock 23-1 on Friday.

The Saints are 4-0 and continue to improve, said head coach Eileen Suter.

"They're doing really well," Suter said. "We're solid from top to bottom and we've got solid pitching. The only thing is I hope our defense stays on their toes."

Ellen Johnson and Sam Dunn both hit home runs, and Erin Haglund had three hits and drove in four runs.

Ten Saints had hits, and six had at least two hits.

Haglund earned her third win, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out eight.

B/H's Kendra Schmidgall had two of her team's three hits and drove in the Brave/Owls' lone run.

The Saints play next against New London-Spicer on Monday in Murdock. The varsity game follows the JV contest, which begins at 4:30 p.m.
