Prep softball: Jacks take out MACCRAY

RAYMOND -- In a minor upset, No. 3 seed Dawson-Boyd sprang to a 6-0 lead by the top of fourth and went on to spill No. 2 MACCRAY 11-5 on Tuesday in the second-round of the 3A-North subsection softball tournament.

The Blackjacks eliminated Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 13-12 in the bottom of the seventh just prior to the showdown with MACCRAY.

The Blackjacks move on to eight-team double-elimination tournament starting Saturday at Slayton.

The Wolverines end their season 10-7.

Second Round


Nicole Jurgenson and Mari Lee each had a pair of hits and Lee drove in three runs. Kaitlin Johnshoy, batting in the three spot, scored three times.

The Wolverines seven hits off winning pitcher Katie Hutt came from three hitters: Molly Friese 2-for-4, Abbey Thissen 3-for-4, and Haily Goeman 2-for-3.

The Wolverines 13-hit offense facing Robin Lubitz produced runs in every inning but the first.

MACCRAY leadoff Paige Ammermann was 4-for-5 and her two-run double ended the game via the 10-run rule with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Laura Hauser, the No. 9, hitter doubled in two runs just before Ammermann came to the plate.

Both BOLD runs crossed in the second inning. Brea Grund's double brought in Bailey Elbert, who had singled, and Carli Sigurdson, who had walked.

Winning pitcher Hailey Goeman allowed 9 hits while walking just 3 and getting 6 strikeouts, many of those with a crafty change-up.
