Girls Soccer: Sartell blanks Cards

WILLMAR -- Willmar goalie Jordan Martins picked off 16 thrusts by the Sartell Sabres in what could have been a blowout on Tuesday.

The Cardinals gave up two goals in the first eight minutes of the match at the Kennedy pitch but no more in the 2-0 loss.

"We changed formations and had Shelby (Schneider) go to sweeper," said Willmar coach Chelsea Brown. "The girls really made the (defensive) transition work."

The Cards didn't generate much offense, however, putting just two kicks on the Sabres' goal.

The Cards lost to Sartell 6-1 and 3-0 last year.

Willmar (0-2, 3-0) looks for its first win in conference matches at Sauk Rapids on Thursday. The Sabres go to 2-1 in the CLC and overall.
