GROVE CITY -- Sydney Larson notched a double-double of 22 points and 18 rebounds, and Erica Melbie added another 18 points behind four 3-pointers for Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City as the Falcons tamed the Mustangs of Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 57-49 Tuesday in the season opener for both squads.

Larson netted 14 points in the first half to help ACGC take a 30-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Mustangs then came out running to start the second half and pieced together a 11-2 run that put them in front 34-32. But it was all ACGC after that.

The Falcons wrangled back the lead that eventually hit double figures for the majority of the remaining moments of the non-conference tilt.

Larson also piled up five steals and three assists.

Michelle Melsha had a double-double of her own for BLHS with 14 rebounds and 13 points. But no other Mustang hit double figures in scoring. Hannah VanderVoort added nine points, Katie Kalenberg scored another eight and Erika Zanoth hooked eight rebounds.
