Prep Wrestling: NLS wins BBE Invite

BELGRADE -- The New London-Spicer Wildcats had four champions and placed top four in 12 of the 14 weight classes to claim the title at the 41st annual Jaguars Wrestling Invitational.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa finished a distant second, though the host team also had four champions.

Holdingford was third, a point in front of the Willmar Cardinals. A new pairing of Renville County West/MACCRAY/Yellow Medicine East named Quad County took fifth.

An NLS wrestler was in the championship match in half the weight classes and put five more in the third-place match, winning four of those bouts. The Wildcats are No. 7 in The Guillotine's Class AA state rankings.

Jakob Stageberg at 120 pounds, Logan Brink at 138, Jarrett Hatlestad at 160 and Luke Gould at 195 took first for New London-Spicer.

BBE champions were Adam Jaeger and Josey Tensen at in the first two classes, respectively, and also Tyler Tensen at 126 and Patrick Rooney at 182.

Willmar placed four in the title bout with Austin Miley at 132 and heavyweight Cass Herzog coming away with titles. Miley was named the MVP of the tournament.

Connor Metzger at 170 and Joel Harrison at 220 won titles for Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta.
