Prep Baseball: Woelfel overpowers New Ulm Cathedral

BIRD ISLAND - BOLD's pitching staff continues to pump out strong performances.

On Thursday, James Woelfel allowed a first-inning single and walk, then retired the next 19 New Ulm Cathedral hitters in an 8-0 victory.

Woelfel struck out nine hitters in that stretch and only one ball—Mark Schommer's flyout to center—left the infield. The Warriors also didn't commit an error behind him.

The Warriors' Riley Weis hit a two-run home run in the second for the winning runs, Luke Ryan had three hits and drove in two and Jack Peppel also had three hits and drove in a run. Woelfel also had a hit and an RBI.

BOLD has allowed just three runs through six games this season.

Minnewaska 4, Montevideo 2

Minnewaska scored four runs on three hits and used a complete game performance from starter Shaun Stumpf to earn a victory over Montevideo.

Montevideo's Christian Kanten also threw a complete game, striking 10 out, but errors ultimately cost the Thunder Hawks.

Colin Richards logged two of the Lakers' three hits including a triple. He also drove in three runs.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton countered Renville County West's two-run first with four in the bottom of the inning, then tacked on two more in the third and hung on for a Camden Conference win on Thursday.

RCW's Brody Elfering had two hits and drove in a run, Spencer Wohlman had a hit and drove in two runs and Trent Kjersten doubled twice in four trips.

The Jaguars play host to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart.

Central Minnesota Christian kept up a steady offensive game to post ten runs on Lakeview and get the win.

Jaxon Schwitters led the game with a 3-for-4 afternoon, adding a double, two runs scored and two batted in. Micah Vander Beek also tacked on three runs batted in and pitched three scoreless innings to end the game with a save.

The Bluejays will take on Yellow Medicine East on Tuesday.

Lac qui Parle Valley took advantage of a series of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg errors in a three-run seventh inning to come away with a 4-2 win. Cole Bungarden pitched a complete game to pick up the win, allowing two runs on three hits.

Dylan Haas picked up two RBIs for the Eagles in the win.

The Dragons offense woke up from a five-inning slumber with an eight-run outburst in the sixth to put Watertown-Mayer away.

Ezra Kaping picked up the win in relief, allowing one run in two innings. Sam Tibbits, Andrew Loch and Tyler Sangren each tallied two hits apiece.

Ridgewater ran in to trouble in the later innings, allowing St. Thomas to score eight runs in the final three innings to take the victory.
