Baseball: Bangen superb in Cards' win

SAUK RAPIDS - Grant Bangen fired a superb one-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Sauk Rapids on Thursday.

Bangen allowed just Bjorn Hanson's single and he also had one of the Cardinals' four hits.

Austin Boller drove in Jon Broman with the game's only run in the fourth inning. Drey Dirksen had Willmar's other hit.

The Storm's Noah Klinefelter suffered a tough loss, working a complete game and allowing an unearned run while striking out seven.

An exciting back-and-forth affair went BOLD's way on a Riley Weis walk-off single in the eighth inning.

After ACGC rallied from behind to take the lead in the top of the seventh inning, the Warriors put together a two-out rally to send the game to extras. With Hayden Tersteeg at second following a single and error, Matt Moorse drew a walk and Jordan Sagedahl lined a game-tying single.

Jack Peppel went 3-for-3 for BOLD with a triple and double, while Josh Kinzler had three hits for the Falcons.

Jordan Klaphake homered and Brady Birch pitched a three-hitter as Melrose upended Morris/Chokio-Alberta on Thursday.

Mitchell Dufault, Ryan Bowman and Denner Dougherty had MCA's hits. Bowman took the loss, despite a strong effort.

Colin Richards only allowed two hits but a two-run first inning by Sauk Centre was enough to defeat Minnewaska on Thursday.

Richards struck out nine on the day, including one against Kyle Froseth who had both of the Mainstreeter hits and scored one of the runs.

Matthew Gruber also had two hits for the Lakers with a double and an RBI.

New London-Spicer came away with a doubleheader sweep over Glencoe-Silver Lake to clinch at least a share of the Wright County Conference West.

Will Roguske threw a one-hit shutout, striking out six batters and scattering six walks. The Wildcats tallied five runs over a two-inning span between the fifth and sixth. Roguske helped his own cause with three runs batted on a pair of singles.

Evan Haugen hit a solo homer in the winning cause for New London-Spicer.

John Perkins drove in Jake Schmidt to tie the ballgame and Perkins went around to score on a wild pitch for the win.

Wildcat pitcher Matt Spaulding had everything going for him on the mound with only three hits allowed over his complete game victory.

Litchfield took advantage of a pair of throwing errors and strong pitching on the way to a 3-2 win over Mound Westonka on Thursday.

Mound Westonka's Jerry Krahl pitched a strong game with only two hits allowed but those throwing errors in the first inning allowed a pair to score.

Andrew Loch earned the win for the Dragons with six innings of work.

Canby was stingy, allowing only four Bluejay hits.

CMCS pitched well with only six hits allowed but seven errors proved to be problematic against the Camden Conference's top team.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Bluejays as they host Minneota, the second place team in the Camden, on Monday.
