Legion Baseball: BOLD scores 32 runs in playoff game
BIRD ISLAND - There are lopsided baseball games and then there's what happened Tuesday night in game one of the Division II District 7 South championship.
The BOLD Mudhens tallied an impressive 32 runs in four innings with 24 hits in a shutout against Minneota.
The Mudhens started strong with 10 runs in the opening frame and just kept that momentum going with 13 more in the second inning. Twelve Mudhens recorded hits on the evening including James Woelfel who finished the game 5-for-6 with four RBIs.
Max Buchtel smacked a two-run home run in the second inning and Riley Weis did one better later in the inning with a grand slam over the left field wall.
Luke Ryan also finished with a strong outing, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple, and five RBIs.
Jordan Sagedahl earned the win on the mound with five scoreless innings where he allowed two hits.
BOLD will take on Minneota in game two at 5 p.m. on Thursday in Minneota.

Colin Richards threw an absolute gem to open up a three-game series with New London-Spicer and put Glenwood/Lowry at a 1-0 advantage.
Richards allowed just three baserunners over the course of his 10-strikeout shutout, silencing a very potent offense.
G/L took an early lead with individual tallies in the first and second innings and never looked back. They scored in five of the six innings in which they came to the plate, with six players each notching one hit each.
Now, the series shifts to Spicer on Thursday evening. NLS will need to win both games to advance, while G/L is just one win away.

A four-run sixth inning allowed Fergus Falls to tie Tuesday's game against Willmar and force an extra inning. Fergus Falls took advantage of the extra frame and grabbed the narrow 5-4 victory.
Nic Pearson logged two of Fergus Falls' three hits.
Willmar scored all four runs in the first three innings and managed seven hits in the ballgame.
