BOLD punches state ticket
If Jack Peppel wasn't already destined for the Division II District 7 All-Tournament team his performance Sunday sure locked it up.
The BOLD infielder stepped up to the plate with his team trailing 4-3 to Glenwood/Lowry in the seventh inning of game two Sunday afternoon and lined a shot to left-centerfield to drive in a pair of runs and give his team a win and berth in the state tournament.
The Mudhens will get their state tournament effort underway at 3:30 p.m. Friday against Springfield at Green Lake Diamond in Spicer.
G/L started their series-tying attempt strong with a run in the opening frame Sunday. The Lakers followed that up with two more in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead but the Mudhens responded in the fourth and sixth innings to tie things up at three. The game appeared to be G/L's when they took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning but that didn't last for long. After starting the inning with a quick out, Max Buchtel singled and James Woelfel doubled to the left-center gap, setting the scene for Peppel.
Woelfel finished the game 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. He also earned a win after pitching the final two innings.
