Prep Football: Wildcats hold off Huskies in 6AAA semis

ALBANY — Blake Peterson ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns and Brandon Adelman threw for two scores as New London-Spicer exacted some revenge on a district rival with a 28-20 victory over Albany in the Section 6AAA semifinals on Saturday.

Ten days earlier, Albany squeezed by the Wildcats 38-36 in the teams' final East Central North regular-season game and captured the section's No. 2 seed over the No. 3-seed Wildcats to get the semifinals home game.

Peterson's 70-yard run in the third quarter put NLS up 28-14 on Saturday. After Albany's Simon Meer returned an interception for a score to cut into the margin, the NLS defense kept the Huskies off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.

Adelman hit 10 of 19 throws for 171 yards and two big-play TDs, connecting with Jani TerWisscha on a 44-yard scoring pass to open the scoring and a 61-yard scoring strike to Kelly Bennetts to put NLS up 14-0 early in the second quarter.

The Wildcats are 7-3 and get the unenviable task to trying to derail 9-0 Pierz, the 2015 Class AAA state champion and a state semifinalist last year. The section final is 8 p.m. Friday at St. Cloud State University.
