Prep Volleyball: Bulldogs bounce back

Body:

PAYNESVILLE — One set away from seeing an early end to the season, the second-seeded Paynesville Bulldogs rallied to hold off an upset attempt by New London-Spicer and defeated the Wildcats 3-2 in the Section 3AA quarterfinals Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs won 14-25,17-25, 25-14, 25-20, 15-12.

The Wildcats jumped out to a hot start at Paynesville high school with a commanding 25-14 first set victory and followed that up with an equally strong second set. That's when Paynesville took over, though.

For as strong as the Wildcats looked in the first set, the Bulldogs were just as strong in the third set, winning 25-14. They carried that momentum the rest of the way, too, to take the five-set victory and set up a Section 3AA semifinal meeting with Morris/Chokio-Alberta.

Paynesville provided a balanced attack with 19 set assists from Jenna Lundquist and 16 set assists from Molly Stang. Jacquelyn Hoeft led the Bulldogs with nine kills, just ahead of teammates Skylar Bayer, Brynn Johnson and Abby Schaefer's eight.

On the other side of the court, Payton Mages led the match with 13 kills and Paige Olson tallied 32 set assists.
