Prep baseball roundup: Minnewaska tames Warriors

BIRD ISLAND — Minnewaska rallied back from an early four-run deficit and scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to defeat BOLD 9-8 on Friday.

Matt Paulson had two doubles among his three hits, he scored a run and picked up the pitching win in relief.

Austin Versteeg was 2-for-5 with a double and he drove in three runs, Jake Amundson had three hits and drove in a run and Austin Ostrander had two RBIs. Jonathan Nygaard doubled in two runs for the Lakers.

BOLD’s Tyler Rock was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs.

The Warriors’ Riley Kramer was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and he scored two runs, and Trevor Nissen had two doubles in four trips and he scored twice.

Eight of the two teams’ combined 21 hits went for extra bases.

Benson tied the game with a run in the fifth and then plated the winning run and insurance runs in the sixth in a non-conference game Friday in Benson.

The Braves led 3-1 after four but the Wolverines scored three unearned runs in the fifth to take a one-run lead.

Tanner Mikkelson drove in a pair of runs and Morgan Staton was 2-for-3 with a double and he also scored twice.

Staton also worked a complete game, allowing just one earned run and striking out eight.

 MACCRAY’s Caleb Melin was 3-for-4 with a double and he scored a run.

The Braves play a doubleheader at Paynesville on Tuesday.

Dylan Johnson threw a two-hitter and Chris Jensen drove in four runs in Yellow Medicine East’s win over Renville County West on Friday.

Johnson didn’t walk a batter and struck out five.

Jensen had a double among his two hits and Zach Fischer also had two hits and drove in a run.

RCW opens the playoffs against Dawson-Boyd at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart.

Dalon Bitzan drove in two runs and Matt Schmitz, Tyler Wander, Austin Jaeger and Alex Wosmek also had RBIs to led the Jaguars over the Falcons on Friday in Elrosa.

BBE trailed by a run I the bottom of the sixth but scored six runs to take command.

Jordan Wosmek worked three innings to pick up the win.

The Jaguars are 6-10 overall and play a Central Minnesota Conference doubleheader against Maple Lake on Monday in Elrosa.

Nick Daugherty doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice to lead the Bluejays to a Camden Conference win over the Saints on Friday in Prinsburg.

Sam Ohden was 3-for-4, and Nate Gerdes and Ryan Brouwer both had two hits and drove in runs for CMCS.

KMS’ Nate Torkelson drove in two runs and Rylan Hatlestad had the Saints’ other RBI.

Colby Siegert hit a home run in the first inning to start the Lac qui Parle Valley offensive assault and pinch hitter Dylan Lillejord ended it with a run-scoring single in the fifth inning.

The Eagles’ Jalen Baldwin was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs and Brandon Hill had two hits and drove in a run.

Jordan Staab collected the only two Blackjacks hits off Eagles starter Eric Smith, who walked one and struck out seven.

The Eagles play in a wood bat tournament against Southwest United at noon today in Canby.

Nick Daugherty’s single in the top of the 11th inning drove in Grant Hoekstra with the eventual winning run in a Camden Conference game on Thursday in Raymond.

Neither team scored until the Wolverines scored twice in the sixth. CMCS used a T.J. Stoel single and doubles from Hoekstra, Sam Ohden and Daugherty to take a 3-2 lead. MACCRAY force extra innings with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
