Prep softball: Paynesville takes out Pierz

PAYNESVILLE — Paynesville took full advantage of Pierz walks, scoring in double figures on just five hits in an 11-1 victory over Pierz on Monday in the opening round of the Section 6AA-East playoffs.

The Bulldogs improved to 16-0 and now play Milaca at 5 p.m. today in the double-elimination round in Waite Park.

Paynesville scored five runs in the first and four more in the second inning to take control, thanks in large part to 10 Pierz walks and two Pioneers errors.

Allie Stanger drove in three runs, Brooke Hemmesch had two RBIs and Brooke Wuertz and Jackie Solem also drove in runs.

Megan Schaefer worked all five innings, allowing a run on two hits. She walked one and struck out five.
