The Insider: Spicer hosting softball tournaments

Green Lake Diamonds will be the site for two slowpitch softball tournaments July 5 and 6 in Spicer. There will be men’s and co-ed divisions with a three-game guarantee.

The entry fee for the men’s tournament is $160 and $150 for the co-ed tournament. Some teams may be asked to play on Friday, July 4 if needed.

Stearns County-County Line All-Star Game Friday

The annual Stearns County League-County Line League All-Star game is Friday at Kingery Field in Atwater, starting at 8:15 p.m. The County Line League All-Star roster includes:

Jacoby Anderson, Josh Cunningham, Vance Martin and Justin Schroeder of Atwater; Scott Rambow, Kevin Soine, Ben Kulset and Mike Danielson of New London-Spicer; Chris Braaten, Jonah Johnson and Chad Scearcy of Norway Lake-Sunburg; Tyler Toop, Shane Bosek and Trenton Berg of Starbuck; Austin Mackendanz, Aaron Savelkoul and Adam Hemmesch of Paynesville; Shane Rademacher, Chris Beier, Jordon Beier, Austen Hadley and Austin Kampsen of Regal.

First annual Danube

Dash 5K is July 12

The first annual Danube Dash 5K Run/Walk is July 12, as part of the city’s 2014 Fun Days.

Race-day registration is 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., with the run/walk beginning at 8 a.m.

All participants registered by July 2 will be guaranteed a Danube Dash t-shirt. Runners t-shirt pick up and final registrations will be at the football field in Danube.

Registrations received before July 2 cost $20 and includes a t-shirt.

Reigstrations received after July 2 cost $25 and does not guarantee a t-shirt.

Lynx’s Moore second in

WNBA All-Star balloting

Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore ranks second among WNBA players in league All-Star Game balloting.

Moore has 16,509 votes, ranking behind only Chicago’s Elena Delle Donne (16,542).

The Lynx’ Seimone Augustus (10,024) and Lindsay Whalen (8,898) represent the team among Western Conference guards, while Janel McCarville (5,048) and Rebekkah Brunson (10th, 2,932) close out the Lynx front court representatives.

Moore leads the WNBA this season with 23.5 points per game and three-pointers made (33). She leads the Lynx in rebounds with 8.0 rebounds per game and ranks third in assists (3.3). Augustus ranks sixth in the league in scoring (18.1) and seventh in field goal percentage (.541), while Whalen (15.6 ppg, 5.4 apg) ranks fourth in the league in assists. The Phoenix Mercury will host the Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star Game at US Airways Center on Saturday, July 19, and will be nationally televised on ESPN, with tip-off at 2:30 p.m.
