The Insider: Broncos take on Invaders in Premier Bowl IV
The West Central Broncos will take their five-game winning streak to Fargo to face the Invaders on Saturday for the Midwest Premier Football League championship in Premier Bowl IV.
The Broncos and Invaders play at 7 p.m. at Shanley High School in South Fargo.
The Broncos are 6-3 and started their five-game winning streak with an 18-15 win over Fargo on July 19 at New London-Spicer High School.
However, the Invaders (7-2) ripped the Broncos 57-19 in the teams’ first meeting, a game in which the Broncos were missing eight starters and head coach Willie Holmes was unable to attend.
Minnesota seeks to
ban use of Redskins
University of Minnesota president Eric Kaler doesn’t want to see the Redskins’ nickname anywhere in TCF Bank Stadium when Washington plays at the Minnesota Vikings in November.
The Vikings are using the university’s campus facility for the next two seasons to play their home games while a new stadium is built in downtown Minneapolis.
Kaler said he assured U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.), who believes using the name would violate school policies on equity and diversity, that Redskins would not be used in promotional and game-day material when the Vikings play host to Washington on Nov. 2.
Vikings spokesman Lester Bagley said the team will continue to discuss the use of the nickname with university and Native American community leaders.
According to The Washington Post, the Redskins do not agree with the university’s stance on barring the name.
“We have met many native Americans from Minnesota who agree with our position and feel we are using the term correctly and honorably,” Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie said.
