Mauer is Twins' MVP for 2nd time

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- For the second straight year, Joe Mauer was named the winner of the Calvin R. Griffith Award as the Most Valuable Player on the Minnesota Twins team.

Mauer finished third in the American League with a .327 batting average this season.

The awards will be given out at the sixth annual Diamond Awards dinner Jan. 27 at Target Field. The event will benefit brain, nerve and muscle disorders research at the University of Minnesota.

Mauer also was the winner of the Dick Siebert Award for the Upper Midwest Player of the Year.

Carl Pavano was named the Twins' Pitcher of the Year, Delmon Young was named the Most Improved Player, Danny Valencia was named Most Outstanding Rookie and Michael Cuddyer was the "Good Guy" winner by the media.
