WILLMAR - Andy Jacobson put forth a scorching Sunday performance to capture the championship at the 87th annual Lakeland Golf Tournament at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

Jacobson shot a 68 to start the day on Sunday then posted an even par 36 on his second time through the back nine to win the tournament for the eighth time.

"I kept telling myself to hang in there and chip away," Jacobson said. "Sooner than later I was in the hunt then I just kept trying to keep pace and playing smart. I wanted to stay away from the big numbers. It was challenging with the wind you had to play smart out there and keep the ball in play and I felt like I did a good job with that."

Matt Gorans was last year's champion and he finished in second place with a score of 218 in the 54-hole tournament, just three strokes back of Jacobson's 215. Jim Anderson followed just behind Gorans with a 219 and Willmar high school standout Levi Hauser tied for fourth with Tony Kallevig at 224. Jacobson's group featured five of the top six finishers and they all finished within eleven strokes of each other.

"We have a lot of talent at our local golf course," Jacobson said. "It's fun to battle against your friends. I would take these guys and play a lot of team competitions with them because they really know what they're doing. There's some great players out here and we all push each other to get better and compete at a high level."
