Ridgewater football preview

Ridgewater (1-1) at Vermilion (1-1)

1:30 p.m. today at Ely High School

VERMILION OVERVIEW: Rochester pulverized the Ironmen 50-6 in Week 2, one week after Vermilion won at home over Minnesota West, 21-7. The Ironmen favor the pass. Quarterback Logan McAllister is 27-for-56 for 341 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. While the Miners have averaged only 40 yards on the ground, they remain a team with big-play capability. Last year at Willmar, the Ironmen crushed the Warriors 55-17 in Week 3 and would reach the state championship game. Defensively, Maurice Waters is the top tackler in the North with 29, while defensive back Devon Young leads with three interceptions.

RIDGEWATER OVERVIEW: The Warriors need to establish authority along the line of scrimmage when they have the ball. After two games, the rushing game shows 35 net yards after subtracting sacks. Patrick Cincinatus has managed 44 yards in 18 tries. "We're going to run the ball and own the line of scrimmage," stated head coach Rob Baumgarn. QB Jackson Illies leads the South in yardage with 333 yards, completing 36 of 79 passes, but the downside is five interceptions and no touchdowns. Baumgarn expects the Vermilion defense to bring a lot of pressure. The Warriors defense looks to be a strength, but tougher tests are up ahead.
