Ridgewater football preview

Ridgewater (1-1, 2-4) at Fond du Lac (1-1, 2-4)

1:30 pm. Today at Cloquet

FOND DU LAC OVERVIEW: The third-year program has wins over Minnesota West (25-0) in Week 3 and Itasca (24-14, OT) in Week 5. Quarterback Rumea Carlton (900 yards, 9 INT, 7 TD) of Ft. Meade, Fla., leads an explosive offense, with wideout Branden Peterson (Apple Valley, Eastview) the leading receiver 19 catches for 412 yards and two TDs. Running back March Jones (Montgomery, Ala.) has rushed for 349 yards, the most in the North Division. The Thunder average 314 yards of offense per game, which is 107 more than the Warriors.

RIDGEWATER OVERVIEW: The Warriors missed a chance to get back in the South Division playoff picture when the team fizzled at Minnesota West, losing 19-6. "Fond du Lac is low on numbers but has good speed and they will run the ball until we prove we can stop them," said Ridgewater head coach Rob Baumgarn. "We need to seize control of the line of scrimmage and just go out and have fun" -- as the team did two weeks ago while thumping Fergus Falls. Baumgarn said receivers Shane Black (21 catches, 269 yards), Pat White (9-183) and James Lucas (5-133) are doing a good job and that Craig Gartner, Tyler Blomme and Anthony Adams (3 INTs) continue to shine defensively. The linebackers and defensive ends have been strong. Phil Herkenhoff has 60 tackles, Otimbum Wilson has 52 and Mickell Brown 50.
