College Wrestling: Ridgewater sinks Itasca

GRAND RAPIDS -- A four-match win streak in the upper weights ignited Ridgewater past Itasca 38-15 in a MCAC wrestling dual Wednesday.

Pins from Nate Friederich at 133 pounds and Jake Patnode and an Itasca forfeit at 149 gave Ridgewater (3-3) at quick 18-6 lead. The Vikings then won a close decision at 157, but Ridgewater responded by winning the next four matches to stretch its lead to 38-9.

Ryder Torgeson started the run with a 11-3 major decision at 165. Two Itasca forfeits -- 174 and 197 -- and a major decision from Martin Hagen 184 followed.

The Warriors will compete in the Minnesota West Open Saturday that starts at 9 a.m. in Worthington.
