Ridgewater takes care of Anoka-Ramsey in 3 games

COON RAPIDS -- Ridgewater improved to 10-0 in the MCAC Southern Division as three Ridgewater players notched 10-or-more kills in the Lady Warriors' 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 sweep of second-place Anoka-Ramsey Wednesday.

The Rams (7-3, 18-5) were in line to stun the Lady Warriors by winning the first two games, but Ridgewater's defense held strong in the closing moments of the first and second games while Macy McKay closed out each game with an ace serve.

"We had to come back in the first and second sets," said Ridgewater coach Joe Sussenguth. "The defense pulled us through."

Emily Roelike led a balanced Ridgewater (23-1) attack by pounding down 13 kills. McKay and Brianna Jacobson added 10 apiece while Hannah Smith had eight and Maggie Zirk six in just 10 attacks. McKay also had a team-high 20 digs and served four aces.

"We had a balanced attack and that's one of our biggest strengths," said Sussenguth. "We don't have one leading hitter each night. We could have been more efficient on offense, but we scored when we needed to."

Molly Hurrle had five ace serves and 41 assists.

Ridgewater hosts Rochester, third in the Southern Division, on Saturday.
