Ridgewater in state softball final

CLOQUET -- Ridgewater pitching gave up just three runs and seven hits, and Emily Roelike batted .800 in three MCAC State Tournament games Friday to advance to the championship round.

The Lady Warriors opened the tournament by upending Northland 8-1 as Andrea Krause gave up just three hits.

Shannon Heitz then gave up only two hits while striking out nine in the second game as Ridgewater beat Minnesota West 11-2.

Krause then capped a perfect day by spinning a two-hit shutout in a 7-0 win over Itasca.

The trio of wins improved the Lady Warriors' overall record to 32-7 and pushed the Southern Division champion into today's championship round that starts at 2 p.m. Ridgewater would need to win just one game to claim the state title, but a loss would mean another game to follow as the Lady Warriors would a second chance to win one game.

"Today they just played three well all-around games," said Ridgewater coach Todd Thorstad. "We got good pitching by keeping the ball down, timely hitting and good defense."

The offense produced 33 hits with 13 going for extra bases, including four home runs. Roelike belted two home runs and went 8-for-10 in the three games.
