College Baseball: Warriors swept by Fergus Falls

(Tribune photo by Rand Middleton) Ridgewater College first baseman Zach Fischer comes up with a low throw to get Spencer Kidder of the Fergus Falls Spartans in the third inning in Game 1 of a twin bill at Spicer on Saturday. Kidder, who doubled and scored two runs, was trying to beat out a ball that got away from catcher Clint Larson on a third strike. Fischer had a good day at the plate with two hits and a stolen base batting cleanup.

SPICER -- The Ridgewater College Warriors dropped a pair to the Fergus Falls Spartans on Saturday in MCAC baseball.

Lack of timely hitting and extra-base hits put Ridgewater at a disadvantage to the Spartans' lively bats, which produced two-homers in Game One and another in Game Two.

This was the Southern Division opener for both teams. The 9-4 and 5-0 wins upped the Fergus Falls record to 18-3 overall.

Sunday's games in St. Cloud against the technical college were postponed due to rain. A makeup date was not announced.

Game One

Fergus Falls 9, Ridgewater 4

Ridgewater got off to a good start leading 4-2 after two innings, but the Warriors were left in the chalk dust for lack of clutch hitting.

Both squads finished with nine hits. The Warriors squandered their opportunities, leaving the bags full in the third and again the fifth and stranding two more base runners in the sixth.

Starter Adam Brewers hung tough while never having an easy inning before giving way to Joey Schreck in the fifth after allowing back-to-back doubles. Tony Myer and Darin Stanishaus homered off Schreck in the sixth. Stanislawski also doubled and singled, scored three times and drove in three runs.

Warriors' leadoff hitter Jordan Ruter was 3-for-4 with an RBI double. Cleanup hitter Zach Fischer singled twice and hit the ball hard two other at bats.
