Women's basketball: Warriors soar past Blue Devils

WILLMAR — Its offense isn’t where they would like it but the Ridgewater women’s basketball team keeps ticking off victories.

Cameo McNeley scored 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds and Raeann Sorenson had 14 points and 9 rebounds to help the Warriors knock off Riverland 58-55 on Saturday in a MCAC South Division game at the Ridgewater gym.

The Warriors improved to 2-1 in the division and 12-4 overall.

“It’s still not pretty for us, but we’re playing with more heart and more emotion and that’s what’s been missing,” said Warriors head coach Carrie Ogdahl.

The Ridgewater roster was shaken up over the holiday break, with a few players falling off the roster and new faces coming aboard.

It’s taken time for the newly aligned squad to jel, Ogdahl said.

“We hope we can get more scoring,” she said. “We were scoring in the 70s and now we’re in the 50s.”

Courtney Kramer scored 9 points for the Warriors and Katie Knisley, one of the new roster additions, had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Lynsey Runke had 3 points and 6 assists and Jessica Kalenberg had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

The Riverland game was a somewhat rare home contest for the Warriors, who played their two previous games on the road and now embarks on road trips to Western Wisconsin on Wednesday and Anoka Ramsey on Saturday. But Ridgewater plays five of its final six games at home.

“That’s what you hope to do: win ‘em all at home and pick off a couple on the road,” Ogdahl said.
