College Softball: Ridgewater's winning streak now at 8

WILLMAR — Ridgewater stretched its winning streak to eight games after beating Anoka-Ramsey twice on Saturday and receiving two forfeits from Riverland on Sunday.

The Warriors (13-6 overall) needed an extra inning to upend the Golden Rams 5-4 in the opener before overwhelming the visitors 10-1 in five innings in the second game.

Riverland was missing three players and had to forfeit to the Warriors on Sunday.

Ridgewater is at St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday for another doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.

Game One

Ridgewater 5, Anoka-Ramsey 4

The Golden Rams grabbed a 4-2 lead in the top half of the fifth inning before the Warriors made their charge. Ridgewater scored in the bottom half of the frame and again in the seventh and eighth to earn its 10th win of the season.

Kari Shipman led off the Warriors’ eighth with a double and Brooke Carlson followed soon followed with another double to bring in Shipman with the winning run.

Jess Kalenberg worked all eight innings in the pitcher’s circle to earn the win, striking out six along the way.

Game Two

Ridgewater 10, Anoka-Ramsey 1

A five-run second inning that saw nine Ridgewater batters visit the plate opened the floodgates for the Warriors. Justine Otremba had a two-run single and Carlson and Datriana Jensen had run-producing hits to highlight the frame.

Otremba opened the scoring by drawing a bases-loaded walk in the first. Shipman tripled and singled to drive in another two runs for Ridgewater, which outhit the Golden Rams 10-3.

Brittany Nissen benefitted from the offense to earn the complete-game win.
