Softball: Cards down Storm for ninth win

SAUK RAPIDS - Willmar moved to 9-1 in a similar way to how the Cardinals won the other eight games: strong pitching and hot hitting.

Willmar's Mackenzie Jones struck out 10 batters and only allowed five hits in a 6-2 victory over Sauk Rapids in a Central Lakes Conference win on Monday.

The Cardinals' Jordyn Swoboda helped the cause offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run, stolen base and three runs scored.

Hannah Johnson was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Ashley Prahl was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, and Josie Muller had a hit and stole a base.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta improved to 9-0 with a five-inning win over New London-Spicer on Monday in Morris.

Liz Dietz hit a two-run home run in the first inning to help her cause in the pitching circle. She allowed one earned run and five hits to get the win. Dietz had three hits and five RBIs.

NLS' Courtney Hanson hit a solo home run in the top of the first.

The Tigers play host to Minnewaska at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Litchfield broke a scoreless tie in the fourth and then poured it on in the late innings to down Eden Valley-Watkins on Monday in Eden Valley.

Sydney McCann, Kristin Jones and Emma DeWolf all had two hits and drove in runs, Neriah Lara drove in a pair of runs, Avery Stilwell had a hit and an RBI and Janessa Olson had two hits and scored twice.

The Dragons, now 8-3 overall, got a complete game from Maddy Schultz, who allowed a unearned run and struck out four. Litchfield plays host to Annandale in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Thursday.
