Prep Softball: Rocori deals blow to Cards' CLC title chances

WILLMAR - Willmar's shot at a Central Lakes Conference championship took a major hit on Tuesday as Rocori rolled into town and left with two victories over the Cardinals.

Rocori won 6-1 and 7-1, improving to 9-2 in the CLC and 13-3 overall. Willmar fell to 9-3 and 12-4 overall and now is a half-game behind the Spartans and Brainerd, which also is 9-2 in the conference and tied with Rocori at the top.

The Cardinals have two regular-season games remaining against Sartell on Thursday in Willmar.

On Tuesday, Rocori pitchers Caitlin Heinen and McKenzie Dufner combined to allow just five hits and one earned run while walking just two and striking out 28 Cardinals.

Willmar's Hannah Johnson homered for the only run in the Cards' 7-1 loss and she drove in the only run in the 6-1 defeat.

Sauk Centre 4, ACGC 3

ACGC scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but fell just short of completing the comeback Tuesday afternoon in a single game against Sauk Centre.

The Mainstreeters scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning and Kenzie Schmiesing kept the Falcon bats in check for the win.

ACGC will hit the road for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Thursday in Montevideo.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta scored five first-inning runs and Liz Dietz held off Benson's offense from the pitching circle in a West Central Conference game on Tuesday.

In addition to the pitching win, Dietz was 4-for-4 and drove in four runs. MacKenzie Hockel, Bailey Marty and Whitney Demaris all had two hits for the Tigers.

Benson's Kaitlyn Berreau had two hits.

Benson plays host to West Central at 5 p.m. Thursday and Morris/CA visits Melrose for a single WCC game at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Lauren Krieger had plenty of run support in her varsity debut.

The Saints broke out for 24 runs on 21 hits in an overwhelming win over Lakeview Tuesday night. Eleven different Saints logged at least one hit to help out Krieger, who earned the win in her debut.
