MURDOCK—KMS broke out the bats to kick off their playoff run, topping Dawson-Boyd 12-2 and Yellow Medicine East 10-2 Tuesday afternoon.

The Saints got the Section 3A tournament going against the Sting, where the hosts jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two innings that turned into 11-0 through four innings. YME added a run in the fifth inning and one more in the seventh to give the game the 10-2 final. Cassie Weir led the Sting with a pair of doubles and an RBI.

The Saints, who tallied 12 hits in game one, kept the bats going in game two with 18 more hits against Dawson-Boyd.

Katie Krieger went 4-for-5 from atop the lineup but it was the bottom half of the lineup that produced the most for the Saints. The six-through-nine batters in the lineup, consisting of Lexy Swanson, Hannah Rosenboom, Annika Smith and Haylee Johnson went a combined 11-for-15 with nine RBIs. Swanson was the catalyst with four RBIs and a pair of doubles.

Freshman pitcher Lauren Krieger was strong in her five-inning start, allowing just one hit with zero runs before she gave way to her sister, Katie, who pitched the final inning.

Haley Wollschlager capped a big day with a no-hitter in a four-inning game against BOLD to remain 2-0 in the playoffs.

She finished just one walk away from a perfect game as the Eagles opened up the game with 10 runs in the first inning. Wollschlager also went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored. Jenna Burkelo added a pair of hits with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored, which was mimicked by teammate Lindsey Kranz, aside from an extra RBI.

Litchfield 3

Maranatha Christian erased a one-run deficit and added insurance runs with a five-run seventh inning against Litchfield in the second round of the Section 5AA playoffs on Tuesday in Litchfield.

The Dragons scored three runs in the first three innings but their bats went silent after that points.

Maranatha scored two runs in the sixth to pull close, then capped the rally in the seventh.

Litchfield's Jasmin Estrada had two hits and drove in a run and Avery Stilwell was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

The Dragons play in the 5AA losers bracket against Glencoe-Silver Lake at 4 p.m. Thursday in Rockford.

The Tigers, the top seed, had a first-round bye. Mackenzie Hockel and Jenna Howden both doubled and drove two runs. Liz Dietz worked all seven innings, allowing two unearned runs and striking out seven.

Benson erased a four-run deficit with a four-run fourth. Liz Staton had three hits and drove in a run and Abby Lundebrek had two hits and an RBI. Bailey Stewart had two hits and scored twice and Michele Stai and Kaitlyn Lange both had two hits and drove in runs.
