Legion Baseball: Kerkhoven edges Monte in tourney opener slugfest

MONTEVIDEO -- Kerkhoven scored three runs in the top of the ninth and held on to beat host Montevideo 12-9 in the first game of the Montevideo Invite in Legion baseball action Friday.

Rain washed out the Cottonwood-Madison game on Friday after only two pitches were thrown.

Action resumes today with the medal games Sunday.

Jonah Johnson hit a two-out single to give Kerkhoven the lead, 10-9. Aaron Zimmer followed with an RBI single and the final run scored on an error.

Tyler Grey belted a two-run home run, hit a double and had five RBI to lead Montevideo (1-4), which scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game.
