Stingers win second straight at Madison

MADISON, Wis. — Zack Tillery hit a go-ahead single in the seventh inning and the Willmar Stingers took their second straight against the Madison Mallards 10-7 on Thursday at Warner Park.

In another high-scoring affair, Willmar led 7-6 after the third inning before Madison tied it up in the sixth.

Willmar’s Tyler Leffler led off the seventh with a walk, and after a Danny Brennan double, Tillery singled to score Leffler and make it 8-7.

One batter later, Michael Suchy singled in Brennan for an insurance run.

Brian Olson socked his first homer of the year, a three-run shot in the third, and Brennan and Tillery each had three hits.

T.J. Whidby got the win in relief and Cody Hughes shut the door for his second save.

The Stingers improved to 11-13 in the second half in the Northwoods League North Division.

They’re 34-25 overall and are a half-game behind the Duluth Huskies for a spot in the postseason.

Willmar plays 7:05 p.m. today at Waterloo.
