Former Stingers Suchy, Moon taken on Day 2 of MLB draft

WILLMAR — Two former Willmar Stingers outfielders were selected on Day 2 of the Major League Baseball draft Friday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates took Florida Gulf Coast’s Michael Suchy, who played for Willmar in 2012 and 2013, in the fifth round at No. 161 overall.

One round later, at No. 183 overall, the Kansas City Royals grabbed 2013 Stinger Logan Moon out of Missouri Southern.

Suchy hit .318 with a .384 on-base percentage and .519 slugging percentage for the Eagles this spring and homered eight times.

Moon was the leading hitter for the NCAA Division II Lions with a .386 average, .460 OBP and .527 slugging percentage. He stole 17 bases and drove in 35 runs.

Day 3 of the draft concludes Saturday with rounds 11-40.

2011 Stinger Jake Stinnett was taken on Thursday by the Chicago Cubs at No. 45 overall.
