Fowler double propels Stingers past Loggers

Tribune Staff Report

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Reagan Fowler hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth inning and the Willmar Stingers rallied past the La Crosse Loggers to win 6-3 on Sunday at Copeland Park.

Tied 3-3, Dan Motl led off the eighth with a single and took second on Hutton Moyer’s bunt.

Fowler then doubled to score Motl with the go-ahead run.

Cleanup hitter Nick Rivera added a cushion with a two-run homer, his 12th of the season.

That gives him the second-most home runs in the league, trailing Madison’s Pete Alonso and Wisconsin’s Paul DeJong who each have 15.

The Stingers improved to 16-11 and move into a first-place tie with Waterloo in the Northwoods League North Division second half.

Motl, Sean Beesley and Jack Ross had two hits apiece, and Beesley and Motl each notched an RBI.

Matt Snyder pitched six innings of one-run ball, and Matt Geislinger picked up the win despite allowing two runs.

Tyler Cohen slammed the door with his first save of the season.

The Stingers took a tough Saturday loss when closer Brady Anderson surrendered a two-out, two-run, walkoff home run to the Loggers’ Jack Meggs, after the tying run reached on an error.

Kurt Yinger had held the Loggers to four runs over seven innings, and the Stingers took a 5-4 lead with help from home runs by Dan Motl and Nick Rivera.
