Willmar volleyball steps up in victory

The Willmar volleyball improved both its serving and serve receive, which led to more efficient offense in a three-set victory over Jordan at the Breakdown Side Out Classic on Saturday.

The Cardinals won 25-11, 25-14 and 25-20.

Willmar lost a three-setter to Marshall to open the season but rebounded in all phases of the game against Jordan, said head coach Traci Grussing.

"We served tough and at a much higher percentage that we did against Marshall," Grussing said. "Our biggest improvement was in serve receive. We were able to generate a lot more offense this match than we did against Marshall."

Grussing cited Abby Stark, Caitlin Ogdahl and Bailey Olson for their serve receiving, and she said Carly Wedel and Olson both surpassed .500 hitting efficiency, "which is amazing."

Wedel and Olson led the Cardinals with nine kills and Ogdahl had eight. Wedel also had 22 set assists and served four aces.
