The former Minnesota Energy plant in Buffalo Lake began production in 1997 but was closed in early 2010 and remained idled until being acquired and re-permitted this year by Purified Renewable Energy LLC. Renville County is a national leader in the production of corn and once again is home to an operating ethanol plant with the reopening of the Buffalo Lake plant by Purified Renewable Energy LLC.
