Victoria Skaggs, 6, shops for a toy for her little sister Sunday evening at Wal-Mart in Willmar with the help of Willmar Police Officer Tony Lapatka. Twenty-three children shopped with Willmar police officers, Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office reservists and county corrections officers and dispatch staff during the annual “Shop with a Cop” event. Lyndsay Jorgenson, a kennel worker at Hawk Creek Animal Shelter in Willmar, plays with one of the shelter dogs. A large gift from Ron and Judy Olson of Willmar is enabling the shelter operated by the Humane Society of Kandiyohi and Meeker Counties to improve life for animals in the shelter, including new doors in the dog kennels that give potential adopters a better view of each dog.
