The Minnesota Conservation Corps used blow torches last year as part of efforts to eradicate Palmer amaranth on conservation lands in Yellow Medicine and Lyon counties. Contaminated seed was to blame for the noxious weed's presence.

Souen "Posy" Chheng, left, is in a detention center in Arizona pending possible deportation to Cambodia. He and Allison Chheng were married in August on her parents' farm near Cottonwood. Shortly afterward, he was detained, just days after learning that Allison was pregnant with their son.

The ice cover on Foot Lake in Willmar was retreating from shore on Friday. The Spicer fisheries crew will begin assessing some of the shallow lakes in the region this coming week for possible fish kill.
