Crews work July 18 to replace broken power lines on the east side of Granite Falls after a severe storm July 16 took out power to the entire town. Disaster aid will be on its way to Chippewa and Yellow Medicine counties and the Upper Sioux Community for storm damage to public utilities.

Workers are improving the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway line east of Kerkhoven as seen from the U.S. Highway 12 overpass. Water is slow to recede from farm fields along Shakopee Creek. The Chippewa River at Benson was receding, with the level reported to have dropped from 14.3 feet to 13 feet, according to the United States Geological Survey gauge.
