Greg Johnson, owner of Mid-State Taxidermy, displays four of the larger whitetail deer racks on Wednesday that have come into his shop east of New London. Three are from the firearms season which opened Saturday, but the 10-point trophy at lower left is from the archery hunt at Camp Ripley in October. Johnson said the buck had a huge neck and field dressed at 254 pounds. Prairie grasses grow tall at the Dalton Johnson Wildlife Management Area, which is three miles east of Lake Lillian, Wednesday. The WMA, which was established in 2005 and named for the founder of the Kandiyohi chapter of Pheasants Forever, was created to increase habitat for pheasants and other wildlife.
